Leaders in business, politics, and society operate in environments where knowledge and signals are incomplete, contradictory, or open to multiple interpretations. Such conditions are frequently labelled uncertain, ambiguous, or equivocal, and provide both significant challenges but also powerful sources of strategic opportunity.
Building on our own empirical research and existing research from management, sociology, decision sciences, and AI, we develop theoretical and practical concepts and tools of how organizations and its leaders gather intelligence, interpret complex situations, shape shared meaning, and make choices even when there is no single clear view of reality. We develop solutions that help leaders and organizations, individually and collectively, to navigate conflicting interpretations, align stakeholders, and act purposefully despite challenging environments.
The Competence Centre ‘Mastering the Unknown’ works in an interdisciplinary manner to advance research, provide education, offer executive education, and professional advisory services in collaboration with external partners from the business community, public sector, and the wider society.
