Sociology examines the social dynamics of actors and institutions. Our research focuses on the sociology of economics, education, and ecology, with particular attention to structural conditions, organisational effects, and lived experiences.
In addition to research, it involves teaching from a sociological perspective across a wide range of topics, from the assessment to the doctoral level, and at executive programme levels.
The research activities are largely conducted by the two Competence Centres:
Leaders in business, politics, and society operate in environments where knowledge and signals are incomplete, contradictory, or open to multiple interpretations. The Competence Center Mastering the Unknown advances interdisciplinary knowledge on these issues through research, education, executive education, and advisory services, in collaboration with partners from business, the public sector, and wider society.
SIT explores and shapes transformation processes related to social innovation, education, society, and sustainability. As a key Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) partner in Horizon Europe projects, SIT analyses and evaluates societal change from a human-centered, user-oriented, and interdisciplinary perspective. In close collaboration with stakeholders from science, industry, policy, and civil society, SIT co-develops effective, real-world solutions.
