Shaping the future of agroforestry in Africa

About the Project

AfroGrow is promoting sustainable agroforestry across Africa to enhance climate resilience, biodiversity, and socio-economic development. Operating through six Living Labs in Senegal, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Zambia, and Botswana, the project fosters collaboration among communities, researchers, and policymakers to co-create locally adapted solutions. AfroGrow emphasizes gender equality, youth engagement, and social inclusion, ensuring broad participation in decision-making. By integrating digital tools and capacity-building, it supports sustainable land management and informed policymaking across the African Union.

HSG’s Role: Driving Societal Impact and Equity

HSG will serve as a key social science expert in the socio-economic assessment of agroforestry systems, examining existing inequalities in agroforestry decision-making and evaluating stakeholder engagement and social and economic impacts. Additionally, HSG will contribute to management and higher education initiatives, design user-oriented training activities, and support awareness-raising efforts for a climate-neutral future while actively promoting equity and inclusivity in all aspects of engagement.
